The Leylines

The Leylines - Jan 2017

The Leylines was started by a group of West Country musicians driving home from a session at the legendary Sawmills studios. The song Levelling The Land by The Levellers was on the car stereo and something about the sound of the record, the rolling Cornish landscape and the smell of summer connected in vocalist Steve’s head.

Steve, a product of council estates and stints in the Army, put his observations on the state of the nation into music and started writing. Adding the different musical backgrounds of band mates Matt (guitar), Pete (bass), Dave (drums) and Hannah (violin), The Leylines have created a style that combines the acerbic social commentary of Paul Weller with a folk-rock vibe that will send you right back to those long, hazy, festival days.

The band have a saying: “If you wouldn’t go out and have a drink with someone, don’t work with them.”

Some of their stuff?

Million Dollar Bash

Million Dollar Bash

The only tribute band who play both Bob Dylan and The Band in the UK. Based in Dorset, these seasoned musicians who normally play in different outfits, gig together as the Million Dollar Bash only a few times a year.

The sound is raw, unrehearsed but brilliant and always leaves the audience spellbound and wanting more. For anyone who likes Dylan or the Band, this is a must see. They will be playing out the festival on the Marquee stage.

Slipstream class themselves as a Popular Rock band playing songs people know and love from Led Zeppelin through to Muse.

Mick formed the band with Richard from their five-year association in the Weymouth based Slipped Disc which had gained some notoriety for being a high energy (if noisy) classic rock band.

Si (Front and Centre) has played in many cover bands over the tears and with an originals band in Liverpool’s Cavern. He also played in a New Zealand based metal band, the Deported. He's back!

Dan (Guitar and Stunts) studied music at ACM in Guilford and has played in bands such as The Chosen Ones, New Breed, Ocean Red and Marianas Trench covering all styles of playing and continues to be involved in many high profile recording projects.

Richard (Bass) has played all around Weymouth for the past 40 years with bands such as The Roger James Band, Topaz, The Woodland Brothers, Norfolk and Good and Sunrise.

Mick (Battery) played in bands such as Rue Morgue (with Lizzy’s Robbo), The Next Band (with Soft Machine bassist Roy Babbington), The Great Escape (with Gong’s Dave Sturt), B-Movie, Kabuki (with Jazzist Pete Downes) and others. Also many recording projects with Dave Gilmour’s producer

When a reflective and soulful singer-songwriter from Dorset, Sarah de Warren, crossed paths with Manchester based music producer Feri Gyemant, the result was an unexpected, surprising and transfixing fusion of sound that led to the two forming XTALK. Although both had their respective solo projects before XTALK, Feri and Sarah had a musical connection that they simply couldn't ignore, and instantly began writing songs that pushed genre boundaries, resulting in songs that transport you to new dimensions the instant you hear XTALK's signature heavy beats beautifully and delicately contrasted with Sarah's lush vocals that call to mind hints of Massive Attack, BANKS, and Lamb, while still retaining a sound unmistakably its own.
Although XTALK recently launched, the duo has already performed in a coveted Kendall Calling festival slot and appeared at Sofar Sounds Sheffield. Their debut single ‘Wasted’ was broadcast on BBC Radio 1 after huge support from BBC Introducing in Manchester. The duo also performed live on the Introducing show.

XTALK's live shows draw you in with ambient electronic vibes where Feri provides the beats, synths and live vocal mixing with the help of Ableton Live and Push, Sarah sings and plays the keys, and the audience almost always falls into a haze of ethereal yet energising sound that leaves them transfixed the moment the duo begins to play. The future is indeed looking bright for XTALK, as they prepare to release their next single, and are playing a steady stream of impressive venues around the UK and Europe. True to the band name, XTALK will leave all who cross paths with its sound talking for days.
